Resident Evil 6‘s creators held a special presentation to talk up the game’s characters, enemies, and fear factor.
After days of intense internet speculation and detective work, Capcom took the plunge and formally announced the existence of the much-anticipated Resident Evil 6 with a nicely-fashioned trailer this week. Pretty as it is, though, the trailer isn’t especially heavy on specifics; happily, the executives who took the stage to introduce the game at the Resident Evil Premier Anniversary Party in Tokyo on Friday were.
Executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, and game director Eiichiro Sasaki led the presentation of the game, which is due for release on the 20th of November 2012. According to Andriasang, Kobayashi said that the team has worked to make the game the “ultimate horror entertainment,” with an emphasis on anticipated fear and making the scale of said fear overwhelming.
They then dropped a few character tidbits. Resident Evil 6 will feature four main protagonists, its seems, two of whom will be familiar to fans of the series: Leon and Chris. Both will be playable and their stories will run concurrently, with Chris spending most of his time in one Chinese city while Leon hangs out in the USA. Coming in third is a mysterious male who was described only as “the man who’s told to save the world” (who would seem to be Mr. “The World Can Have My Blood” from the trailer). The fourth lead is a woman called Helena Harper, who was apparently working a security detail for the US President prior to whatever event it was that unleashed the zombies. If her guilty chat in the trailer is anything to go by, she’ll have been heavily involved in said event from the beginning.
In addition to wading through putrid seas of the undead, players will also come up against the “Javo” (pictured looking generally upset at the top of this post). The executives didn’t give many details on the origin, nature, purpose or general comportment of this fellow other than saying his existence will have an even greater impact on the world than the existence of the zombie menace.
There’s not really much else to say at the moment. The trailer looks exciting, Kobayashi helmed Resident Evil 4, and we’ve got a new breed of enemy to look forward to. Roll on.
Resident Evil 6 will shuffle menacingly onto Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on 20 November.
