Controversy in Brighton: Mark Rein Talks

While delivering a keynote-address at the Develop Conference in England, Epic’s VP drew a number of responses from the audience. “You are a dinosaur, you are wrong!” “Your brain is locked!”

Next-Generation reports today that Rein talked about next-gen development, and voiced his dislike for Intel’s strategy. But scoffing at episodic content is what caused some in the audience to react violently.

Rein is no stranger to the reaction his opinions can have. In October of last year, when speaking at an IGN Live panel, he remarked on the then newly announced Nintendo Revolution controller.

“Don’t kid yourself – you’re going to see more gimmicky, crappy, cheap, I-wish-I-hadn’t-bought-it gimmick games based around that controller than you can ever possibly imagine.” He would later say his remarks were taken out of context.

While Rein has strong opinions, and expresses them, he is also an industry insider with above average information on what goes on behind the scenes. And he can transition smoothly between ‘how to turn a profit,’ to “Intel is evil.”
