After months of silence following the conclusion of the Light vs Darkness Saga in The Final Shape, Destiny 2 is set to embark on a new saga with Edge of Fate.
This new saga will see Guardians make their way to the planet Kepler and investigate what the mysterious Nine have in store for them. Unlike the previous expansions, Edge of Fate is comparatively smaller but will deviate from some of the regular tropes we’ve seen so far..
Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Release Date
As announced by Bungie, Edge of Fate releases on July 15, which also happens to be the day Rite of the Nine concludes. This expansion is a part of the Year of Prophecy and will be followed by Renegades, which releases later in December.
The studio has shifted from its one expansion every year policy to dropping two expansions every year. Apart from the seasons, every expansion will have a major update, which is expected to release a few weeks after the new expansion drops. This seasonal content will not be monetized and will be available to everyone who purchases Edge of Fate, and its subsequent expansions.
What Storyline Should You Expect in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate?
Over the years, Guardians have stuck to a simple tagline, “we make our own fate” and the expansion will likely explore the ramifications of it. It also includes the Nine, a group that outdates the Witness and the Traveler and will involve some time magic too.
Guardians traveling to Kepler isn’t by chance because the Nine have invited them. Apart from them, you’ll also see some popular characters like Ikora Rey and new faces like Lodi. The planet is heavily inspired by all the puzzles and environments you’ve faced within the dungeons in Destiny 2 so far, so expect some mechanics while exploring the world.
New Mechanics and Gear Changes in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate
With this new expansion, Bungie is giving the entire armor system a massive overhaul. The core stats are being replaced with new stats that affect weapons. Item Power is being reset and set bonuses are finally coming to the game.
While the core subclasses haven’t been changed much, certain subclasses like Arc and Strand have abilities that allow you to change form for the first time in the history of Destiny 2. Bungie’s done this to help solve puzzles and fit the metroidvania feel it’s tried to implement. New weapons and perks will also be available. Bungie also seems to be leaning into the Holofoil weapon trope and will be adding them to the in-game event loot pool. Holofoil weapons have a different look, and all event-related activities will drop them, but the drop rates will be low to help preserve their rarity.
