EA Acquires Singing Community Website

Electronic Arts acquires music and karaoke community website SingShot.

Publisher Electronic Arts has made its first major entrance into the Web 2.0 market and has bought the online music and karaoke networking website SingShot in order to “accelerate EA’s efforts in community-building and promoting user-generated content.” The site allows its members to “record their own renditions of famous songs, share their recordings with friends, rate and comment on other members’ tracks, customize recordings with photos and videos, and compete in a variety of contests.”

SingShot’s five person staff, including founders Ranah Edelin, CEO, and Niranjan Nagar, CTO, will move in with EA’s Sims team. Edelin and Nagar will don the the titles of vice presidents.

Executive Vice President at Electronic Arts Nancy Smith commented on the acquisition: “We are thrilled to bring the SingShot team into EA. They are tremendously talented, technically adept and true experts in developing user-generated communities through music. We see a bright future for the technology and each of these individuals within EA.”
