Far Cry 3 Gameplay Trailer Burns Down the House

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

The new Far Cry 3 gameplay trailer is hot – but nobody gets shot.

Have you ever been inside a burning building? I haven’t. I once went into a house filled with smoke because my brother-in-law set the stove on fire and then called the fire department when he couldn’t figure out how to unplug it, and after they showed up I realized I’d left my beer inside and ran back in to save it. But that’s a whole different story. And even though I just nipped into kitchen for a second, and the house wasn’t actually on fire, I wasn’t anywhere near as casual about it as the cool cat in this new Far Cry 3 trailer, who charges into a raging inferno, climbs across beams and makes death-defying leaps on his way to saving a damsel in distress, and even manages to make a few wisecracks on the way.

The odd thing about this video is that even though it’s more than three minutes long, nobody gets shot. Nobody even gets shot at. Some conveniently-placed water pipes get ventilated to clear the path to heroism, but that’s it. Otherwise, it’s just a twisting journey through a fortunately smoke-free environment. And while I would never begrudge the occasional set-piece in a game, that’s not what I want to see from Far Cry 3. I want to see shooting. Lots and lots of shooting. Driving segments would be okay too – especially if guys get shot in the process.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 is currently slated for launch on September 4 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
