First you’ll need a crew. Well, first you’ll need an iOS or Android device; then you’ll need a crew.
San Diego Comic Con is a place of wonder, delight, and announcements of all sorts. This latest from San Diego should please those with brown coats in their closets: Firefly Online, an online RPG set in Joss Whedon’s cancelled-before-its-time science fiction cowboy universe, is due next summer. It’s only coming to smartphones and tablets, great news if you’re an Android or iOS fan; “we’ll see how things go” is all the developer is prepared to say, when asked if it plans to port the game to PC.
This one’s being cobbled together out of spare parts and dodgy port compressor coils by QMx and Spark Plug Games. “At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are,” says Andy Gore of QMx. “The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures – well, that’s just too shiny for words.” The trailer doesn’t give too much away, but it’s safe to say you’ll be misbehaving with your newly hired crew in your specially created ship all over the ‘verse, both in space and planet-side.
“Hey, we couldn’t be doing this without the Browncoats and the Firefly community that continues to rock hard core,” said a community spokesman in response to an enthusiastic YouTube comment. “We’re doing it for our fellow Browncoats of the world so seriously – thank *you*.” Want to know more? There’s a website over here you should maybe have a look at.
