Tired of fighting with lame old Nintendo characters or plugging in your PlayStation 3 to play PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? Nickelodeon has you covered, as it’s coming extremely late to the mascot fighting party with the newly announced Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl, a fighting game featuring everyone’s favorite Nickelodeon characters from past and present, as its trailer shows. It comes from publisher GameMill Entertainment and developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs, and the game will include rollback netcode.
This literally looks like they cut and paste Nickelodeon characters into Smash Bros., and it’s not all bad. Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl features characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Rugrats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Danny Phantom, Hey Arnold!, Invader Zim, The Loud House, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, and a ton more. In the trailer, you can see the likes of SpongeBob himself, Leonardo, Reptar, and plenty of others, though it does not appear that any of the babies from Rugrats will be appearing. The game also features 20 themed levels based on the aforementioned shows, like Ninja Turtles‘ Technodrome.
Just how Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl will play isn’t revealed yet, but from the trailer it looks almost exactly like Smash Bros., with characters being blasted off the screen and even some down “smash” moves looking like you can rocket people off the screen. The reveal on IGN also notes that some characters will have unlockable moves, though how they are unlocked isn’t known. You can play single-player or in local or online multiplayer for up to four players, but how robust the storyline might be isn’t clear. What’s also not clear is why there’s no representation from the heyday of Nick’s game show run. Where’s Olmec!?
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl releases in fall 2021 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
