With Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride under its belt, Halfbrick Studios continues the logical progression with a game about a giant robotic space snake.
Games from Halfbrick Studios may not make a lot of sense, but they generally make up for it by being far more fun than they have any right to be. Best known for mobile hits like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, the studio made an appearance at PAX Australia to pull back the curtain on its newest project, Colossatron: Massive World Threat. In case the title didn’t tip you off, it’s a high-thrills throwback to cheesy 80’s cartoons. You’ll take control of the fearsome Colossatron and try to destroy the city before the military stops your rampage.
Colossatron is armed with a variety of weapons -each part of the snake’s segmented body can be equipped with a different attack. Players will have to find and link Powernodes to earn new weapons and abilities to slot into their personalized death machine, all while avoiding the forces of the determined (sigh) General Moustache.
It’s not every day that you get play as a gigantic metal snake from outer space, so never let it be said that Halfbrick lacks imagination. Honestly, Colossatron could turn out to be a Snake clone and I’d still enjoy it for framing my high score in terms of dollars of damage inflicted on a hapless city, but the developers probably have some interesting (and undoubtedly addicting) twists in mind. Colossatron is hitting an app store near you “soon.”
