Hawkeye Trailer Delivers Holiday Bows and Arrows

hawkeye trailer christmas cheer disney+ november release date

You can’t go wrong with a good pun, especially when your superhero’s entire super ability is archery. The first trailer for Marvel’s Hawkeye, which will be streaming on Disney+, sets a surprisingly festive tone for the upcoming show. It features Jeremy Renner returning to the role of the least powerful Avenger as he struggles with the things he did during “the Snap” and takes a new protege under his wing in the form of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). Oh, there’s also a Captain America musical.

As you can see in the trailer, the Hawkeye series takes place in this nebulous time period after Avengers: Endgame but before whatever next big thing is going to happen in the MCU. Hawkeye has quit the game after having his family returned to him and seems to be enjoying life a bit more than when he was getting beat up by literal gods. Then someone dressed up as Ronin shows up and he has to go back into action, but it turns out this new Ronin is another amazing archer named Kate Bishop and her dog. The two team up and holiday antics ensue as Hawkeye appears to attempt to keep his family out of the loop while promising to be home for Christmas.

The show surprisingly looks like fun. After Avengers: Age of Ultron fantastically established Hawkeye as the team’s human soul, his character became one hell of a downer, going full violent vigilante and then watching Black Widow die, but it looks like Marvel is going with a bit of fun for this series, playing hard into its holiday season release and the slight absurdity of superhero archers. That doesn’t mean the series will be all smiles as hints of Hawkeye confronting his brutal time during “the Snap” are shown, and the relationship between him and Kate Bishop is really interesting in the comics. Still, it looks like a fun divergence from the multiverse-establishing, mega-powered heroes onslaught we’ve gotten from the previous shows and upcoming films.

The series also stars Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. And just in case you forgot the post-credit sequence from Black Widow, Florence Pugh will reprise her role as Yelena Belova on the hunt for Hawkeye.

Hawkeye Saves Christmas will premiere on Disney+ on November 24, 2021.
