Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational Leaps To PlayStation 3

The incestual relationship between the PlayStation 3 and Vita continues, as the former picks up Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational from the latter.

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational initially debuted as a launch title for Sony’s Vita handheld in 2012. As with all entries in the Hot Shots Golf franchise, it proved wildly addictive. Unfortunately, the Vita hasn’t been the hit that Sony hoped it might be (despite its impressive tech specs and comfortable design), and thus Vita-exclusive titles have been jumping ship for the more verdant pastures of the PlayStation 3. Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational is the latest game to follow this trend, and come July 23 PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the title via the PlayStation Network for $20.

More than just a simple port, Sony has added new features to the PS3 adaptation of World Invitational. To wit:

The PS3 version offers everybody’s favorite local multiplayer that supports up to four players, as well as new features such as Real Feel Shot where you can swing your way through courses with your PlayStation Move motion controller.

What’s more, for those of you that own the PS Vita version, all of your downloadable content is cross-buy and will be unlocked in the PS3 version! The Vita patch version 1.06 will bring you up to speed with the PS3, enabling you to play with those on the PS3 version in the online tournaments.

At first we were a bit depressed at this news, as it meant that Sony’s faith in the Vita has waned even further, but that cross-play functionality is enticing. Maybe the Vita won’t ever be a smash success, but at least now Vita golfers will have a larger pool of potential online opponents to swear at when yet another slice trails wide.
