Will-o-the-Wisps are annoying little magical creatures that you will come across in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered. Unlike most magical enemies, these are extremely tough and will kill you easily if you don’t know how to deal with them.
These floating balls of light are immune to most forms of physical damage, so it’s best to avoid fighting them during the early game. While they can’t attack you, they can absorb your health and magicka on touch, which is enough to kill you, especially if you have a low-level character.
How to Kill Will-o-the-Wisps in Oblivion Remastered
Will-o-the-Wisps take damage from the following attack source:
- Spells
- Enchanted weapons
- Silver weapons
- Daedric weapons
- Hand-to-hand (Skill needs to be level 50 and above)
If you’re not using a magic-based character, using Silver weapons or Daedric weapons is your next best bet. You can also use enchanted weapons, but you’ll need to ensure that your weapon has enough charges. If your weapon is enchanted but lacks charges, then it’s not going to do any damage at all.

If you’re playing a melee class, you’ll have to learn the movement pattern for this monster. Since it’s capable of depleting your health and magicka on touch, knowing its movement patterns will help you dodge it while keeping up your attacks.
Where to Find Will-o-the-Wisps in Oblivion Remastered
You’ll not be able to spot these creatures until you hit level nine, but they’ll start spawning more frequently as you hit higher levels. They usually can be found in swampy areas on the map, so they have a higher chance of spawning in these areas in Cyrodiil:
- Azura’s Shrine
- Horn Cave
- Wind Cave
- Bramblepoint Cave
Some quests, like “Blood of the Daedra,” will also require you to fight these enemies in Oblivion Remastered. When defeated, Will-o-the-Wisps drop Glow Dust, which is an important alchemical ingredient, and can be used in potions that restore speed or poisons that damage health when consumed.
It’s always important to stock up on potions when heading into battle because you never know when an enemy will hit you with some weird debuff. Apart from restoring health, potions can also clear debuffs. Poisons, on the other hand, can be used on your melee weapons to apply damage-over-time effects to the enemy without resorting to magic or enchantments.
