While Glory Strikes exist in Doom The Dark Ages, they function a bit differently than they used to in the previous entries in the franchise.
Doom is more of a demon slaughter simulator where you use different weapons to hack through the demonic hordes. Glory Strikes are a flashy way to execute the enemy and sometimes feature some gory yet satisfying animations. You won’t be able to hit every enemy with a Glory Strike, because fodder demons disintegrate when you hit them with your shield or any weapon. The bigger ones are more prone to these attacks because they take a few hits to kill.
How to Use Glory Strikes in Doom The Dark Ages
Whenever you stagger a bigger demon like a Leader, you’ll notice a brief purple glow around them. If you’re close enough, a button prompt should appear. When you press the button, you’ll rush in and deliver a massive melee blow to them. This is the Glory Strike in Doom The Dark Ages.

When the game first introduces you to Glory Strikes, it tells you that this attack will only weaken the target, but in our experience, it kills them. It’ll only weaken the target if you fight a bigger enemy like Cyberdemon or a Rider. For such demons, the second strike is always the fatal one.
However, you cannot trigger this attack randomly. You need to continuously hit the enemy until they’re dazed. Only then will you see the purple aura. Furthermore, this aura lasts for approximately five seconds. It’ll vanish if you don’t execute the Glory Strike within this time. Any subsequent damage to the demon will kill it.
Should You Use Glory Strike on Enemies in Doom The Dark Ages?
Yes, you should use Glory Strikes on enemies whenever you get the chance. While on the battlefield, you’ll always find weapon and ammo drops near you. But you’re bound to run out of ammo if you’re trigger-happy like me, or pushing for weapon mastery challenges by reducing enemy damage.

In such cases, executing a Glory Strike will not only return a considerable amount of ammo but also replenish a portion of your health and shields. It’s a risky move, and I died a few times trying to execute this, but it’s extremely rewarding if you manage to execute it in time.
These Glory Strikes have an activation distance in Doom The Dark Ages. You don’t need to be very close to the enemy if they have a purple aura. If you’re within a particular radius and see the key prompt, press it. The Slayer will close the gap with one feral leap and slam into the demon with whatever melee weapon you’ve equipped. And sometimes, he’ll throw a massive Spartan Kick, just for the style points, which is more satisfying than punching or using a flail against these monstrosities.
