Artificer stones are a currency you need to use to get into the Artificers Pit in Diablo 4. This endgame activity is targeted at players looking to min-max their current build.
The activity itself is timed and has multiple stages. In addition to receiving Masterworking materials as rewards, quick completion times will also earn you a place on the leaderboards for the current season.
Where to Find Artificer Stones in Diablo 4
Despite being a currency like gold, Artificer Stones don’t drop on the map. Instead, they’re automatically added to your inventory whenever you complete specific activities in Sanctuary. The easiest way to get this item is by opening Whisper Caches from the Tree of Whispers.
You’ll see icons highlighted in red whenever you check out the map. This suggests that there’s an active whisper on that particular activity. Completing it will reward you with a specific number of Grim Favors. Once you’ve collected 10 such favors, you can turn them in at the Tree of Whispers to collect a Whisper Cache. No matter what cache you pick, you’ll always receive Artificer Stones from them.
Defeating World Bosses, completing Legion Events, and Nightmare Dungeons are also good ways to farm this currency.
How to Use Artificer Stones in Diablo 4
These Artificer Stones are used to open a portal to the Artificers Pit activity, and are not used as a currency in any other activity in Diablo 4 for now. The number of stones required to open the portal increases with the tier of the activity. So, make sure to have enough if you’re looking to farm it repeatedly.

You can find the portal to the Artificers Pit at Cerrigar. This town is in Scosglen and has a waypoint attached to it. If you’ve unlocked the waypoint, then you can just fast-travel there. Otherwise, you’ll have to make your way on foot. You’ll notice a structure called the Artificer’s Obelisk in the town. Interact with this and select the level you want to access to activate the portal.
