How to Get Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals

Here's everything you need to know about how to get Chrono Shield Cards and how to use them in Marvel Rivals.

Chrono Shield Cards are an important asset to own in Marvel Rivals, especially if you’re looking to push through the competitive ranks.

While the game heavily leans into casual PvP, NetEase is actively trying to grow a proper competitive scene with the hope of challenging Overwatch for the hero shooter crown. While the game still has a lot of learning to do, these Chrono Shield Cards are a gentle nudge for players to dip their toes in the ranked game modes, rather than bullying Black Widow and Jeff mains in unranked lobbies.

Where to Find Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals

You can earn Chrono Shield Cards just by playing matches during the Galacta’s Gift event. These cards are located on levels two and four of the reward track. Each level will give you four cards, bringing the total number up to eight.

To collect all eight, you’ll need to finish 12 matches across the different playlists, including the ranked and quick play modes. While you’d have to play against a real team to progress through the rewards list, I’ve found that practising against AI also counts towards the challenge. This resource is very valuable, but it comes with a few conditions.

How to Use Chronoshield Cards

Once redeemed, you don’t need to do anything to use them. Whenever you lose a match in the ranked playlist, a Chrono Shield Card will automatically be consumed to prevent you from losing your progress towards the next rank. For this card to activate, however, you’ll have to make sure that you meet the following conditions:

  • You cannot have an active Chrono Shield. In case you’ve lost too many ranked matches, the game automatically prevents you from losing your progress for a short period. If that shield is active, then these cards won’t be consumed.
  • You’ll have to be below Gold rank to use these cards. While it’ll help you push to Gold soon, any other rank above that won’t benefit from this resource at all.

There’s no limit to the number of cards you can use at a stretch, but at any given point, you can have only 20 cards in your inventory. Additionally, these cards expire at the end of the season in Marvel Rivals. While this resource isn’t going to be a pay-to-win feature, it’ll definitely create rank bloat, a problem that NetEase hasn’t been able to address since launch.
