How to Unlock the Duchess and Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign

Here's how to access both the Revenant and the Duchess as playable characters in Elden Ring Nightreign.

While most of the classes will be available to you from the get-go in Elden Ring Nightreign, you have to unlock the Duchess and the Revenant if you want to explore Limveld with them.

Both these classes are locked behind different questlines. These are straightforward missions, but sometimes, figuring out what you need to do can be painful because no marker tells you how to unlock them. The steps to unlock these new classes are rather annoying, but it does offer a fresh change if you’re tired of grinding through the same boss fights over and over again.

How to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign

To unlock the Duchess, all you need to do is collect an Old Pocketwatch and then hand it over to an NPC at the Roundtable Hold. This Old Pocket Watch is an expedition reward that drops from the Tricephalos expedition. It’s still governed by RNG, though, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll receive it at the end of a single expedition run.

You may need to run the Tricephalos expedition a couple of times until it appears with your relic rewards. Once you’ve picked it up, make your way back to the Roundtable Hold and present it to the Priestess NPC.

To do so, all you need to do is interact with her and tell her about the old timepiece that you’ve found. When you show her the Old Pocketwatch, it’ll trigger a cutscene, and you’ll finally get to use the Duchess to explore Limveld in Elden Ring Nightreign.

How to Unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign

Unlike the Duchess, getting to the Revenant is slightly tedious because you’ll need to get a specific object, find an NPC, and then defeat the Revenant in battle. To trigger the entire mission, you need to make your way to the Small Jar Bazaar NPC at the Roundtable Hold. When you talk to this NPC, you’ll find him selling an object called the Besmirched Frame for 1,500 Murk.

Keep in mind that this item will only appear after you’ve unlocked the Duchess. After you’ve purchased the frame, a yellow exclamation mark should show up on your minimap. Follow the path to this marker, and you should see a ghost staring at a portrait on the wall. When you interact with this ghost, it’ll teleport you to the tutorial area where you need to fight the Night Idol.

How to Defeat the Night Idol

The Night Idol is basically the Revenant, and you’ll have to defeat her and all her summoned enemies. The fight is a bit tedious because you’ve got to deal with so many enemies at the same time. You cannot team up with anyone else, and you’ll have to complete the entire encounter solo. So, it’s best to play a class that you’re comfortable with.

The Night Idol is difficult to take down if you’re using a tanky class, so it’s best if you go with the Ironeye or the Executor because agility is important in this encounter. During the fight, you’ll face the following enemies:

  • Assassin
  • Pumpkin Head
  • Giant Skeleton
  • Night Idol

The easiest way to get through this fight is to take down the Assassin first, followed by the Pumpkin Head. Once they’re done, focus on taking down the Giant Skeleton, and then turn your focus to the Night Idol. She doesn’t have a lot of health, but this fight is annoying because of her ability to summon other creatures. You’ll need some patience, but you can get out of this fight unscathed if you manage to evade incoming attacks.

After you’ve defeated the Night Idol, return to the Roundtable Hold, and you’ll get to choose the Revenant as a playable class whenever you head out on an expedition the next time in Elden Ring Nightreign.
