Hyrule Warriors Is a Dynasty Warriors-Styled Zelda

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The Hyrule Warriors spinoff game will launch in 2014 for Wii U.

Announced in Nintendo’s last Nintendo Direct of 2013 was a new Legend of Zelda game, a spinoff named Hyrule Warriors. Developed by Tecmo Koei, known for franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Hyrule Warriors of course stars Link in a third-person combat game.

In Hyrule Warriors, Link uses his large arsenal of weapons to fight off giant hordes of enemies from Zelda games. There have been climactic moments in Zelda games when Link has needed to cut down group after group after group of enemies to get to the real baddie, and for anyone who’s loved the combat in Legend of Zelda, it looks like Hyrule Warriors will have plenty of hack and slash action.

There’s still no news on a new Legend of Zelda Wii U game, but a Dynasty Warriors-styled Legend of Zelda game sounds entertaining enough to be a solid spinoff title. On first reaction, it seems crazy. After a moment’s passing, it seems like a fantastic idea. Legend of Zelda titles challenge your problem solving skills, but there’s also quite a bit of combat for our legendary sword-equipped hero. Hyrule Warriors is not the in-depth Wii U Zelda title people have been waiting for, but it’s the title we didn’t know we wanted.

Nintendo notes that Hyrule Warriors is not a final title, so it may be changed. The game will launch next year for Wii U.
