James Bond Game Maker Folds

Eurocom’s 42 remaining employees have been made redundant and the company has ceased to trade.

Eurocom, maker of GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and Quantum of Solace, is out of business. The company has gone into administration as part of the winding-up process, and the remaining 42 staff – the few left after a cull of over 150 in November – have been made redundant.

The game maker put out a lot of titles over its 25 years of operation, including many film tie-in games such as Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Its most recent release was 007 Legends featuring Judi Dench voicing M, which didn’t do good business.

Eurocom tried a last-ditch effort to save itself by playing for time, filing a Notice of Intention to Appoint an Administrator at Court to appease creditors and the taxman, with a view to using the borrowed time to sign new deals and get some working capital. This scheme didn’t pan out, and Eurocom had no choice but to fold.

“The Directors of Eurocom would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to all their staff that have been made redundant at this difficult time,” said the company in an official statement, “and show their appreciation of all of their hard work in consistently delivering exceptional games.”
