Japanese Porn Indicates 3D Television Success

Industry analysts believe that porn is going to be one of the main reasons consumers will want a 3D television.

Over the years, porn has proven itself as a business that can be key to the success of various formats and platforms. Take a look at the internet if you don’t believe me. On second thought, just take my word for it. Anyway, with 3D supposedly the next big thing in television and home movies, analysts have predicted 3D porn to be a major factor in Japanese 3D television purchases.

Japan’s very first 3D DVD home release isn’t going to be Avatar or the family-wholesome Happy Feet. Instead, it’ll be, you guessed it, porn. Top adult film actresses Mika Kayama and Yuma Asami will star in 3D X Mika Kayama and 3D X Yuma Asami respectively, both set for release in June to coincide with the release of Sony’s 3D Bravia televisions.

Japanese analyst Yuji Fujimori believes: “Adult videos will likely be an incentive for consumers to buy a 3D TV. It’s worth paying attention to the move because it’s lack of content that’s hindering expansion.” Porn sales amounted to $1.2 billion in Japan last year, representing 30 percent of Japan’s home video market.

33 year old Satoshi Miyazaki, who spends about $21 a month on porn, says: “I want to try it out. I need something dramatic to justify replacing my TV. This could be the motivation.” If this guy is only doling out a Jackson per month to watch naked people perform adult acts, and even he wants a 3D television, I would guess that the porn-obsessed already have them pre-ordered.

3D televisions will be coming to the U.S. later this summer, and you better believe that 3D porn is already planned for release here as well. With porn always whispered about as partially responsible for the success of DVD, Blu-ray, and even portable streaming devices like the iPad, it’s certainly in the realm of possibility that it’ll help the audience for 3D grow too. The situation doesn’t seem quite the same, as it’s much easier to drop a few hundred dollars on a new Blu-ray player than a humongous television, but I know some people really like their porn.
