Get ready to have every form of entertainment there is be turned into an overly complicated, critically lauded, fourth-wall-breaking, experimental, artistic vision of what the medium should be that somehow still has extensively long cutscenes even in formats without any visuals at all. Kojima Productions, the studio headed by famous game developer Hideo Kojima, has announced that it has launched a new arm of the company focused on bringing games to other areas of pop culture, including movies, TV, and music.
As if Kojima’s work weren’t cinematic enough, the new division is based out of Los Angeles and will be looking to pull in high-level artistic talent in order to expand its IP and possibly develop new ones not based on games. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we’ll be seeing Metal Gear Solid films coming from Kojima Productions. Kojima made that franchise, but Konami owns the property (and has a film with Oscar Isaac starring). In fact, at the moment Death Stranding is the only franchise Kojima Productions has, but Kojima has long collaborated and worked alongside filmmakers and top-level actors. Combined with Kojima’s inherent love of cinema, it’s no surprise that his company is heading this way.
Riley Russell, who comes for PlayStation, will be heading the new Kojima Productions division focused on movies, TV, and music.
