Io Interactive, the developer of the Hitman and Kane & Lynch games has had to lay off an undisclosed number of staff members.
The exact number of staff members let go remain undisclosed, but some reports suggest that it could be as many as 35 out of Io’s approximately 200 strong work force. A statement from Io general manager Niels Jorgenson explained that the cuts were necessary to keep Io competitive.
“Every studio has to take decisions to ensure it is operating effectively as projects start up and ramp down. IO Interactive has assessed the internal and external resources needed to support its pipeline and this has led to organizational changes which will include the loss of some roles at the studio. We believe that this decision will make IO continue to deliver great games and add momentum to our operations. We would like to thank all employees affected for their contribution and efforts and wish them well in their future careers.”
From all of us here at The Escapist, we hope those affected by the cuts are able to get back on their feet soon.
