The road to Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings epic has been long and full of reports about what we can expect from the show. As of March 2021, the series gained Doctor Who veteran Wayne Che Yip as director and co-executive producer. Though Midsommar actor Will Poulter joined and left the show before its release, late last year Amazon revealed a long list of names confirmed to appear. A story synopsis was located back in January that involves an epic set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings books. Characters new and familiar will “confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
While today we got confirmation of the Lord of the Rings release date on Amazon, a second season of the show is already confirmed. For more on The Lord of the Rings and the latest Middle-earth news, stay tuned for updates on the new show.
