Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live featured a CG announcement trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2, the sequel to the gothic Soulslike with a creepy world-switching gimmick. The reveal didn’t show much about the changes to gameplay, but new information is making the rounds, and the trailer hinted at some big things to come.

CI Games, the developer of Lords of the Fallen 2, spent a lot of effort refining its predecessor, tweaking its difficulty via numerous post-launch updates. That means they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for the sequel, and will hopefully have all their lamp-bearing ducks in a row before adventurers return to their grimdark world.

The Escapist recaps

  • Lords of the Fallen 2 is actually the third game in the franchise. It’s confusing, as its two predecessors share the same name (with one coming out in 2014 and the other in 2023). All 3 are also set in the same universe.
  • The previous Lords of the Fallen was a Soulslike set in two worlds at once, similar to the gameplay from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
  • Lords of the Fallen 2 was one of the big announcements made during Gamescom 2025, giving players their first look at its world.
  • The first Lords of the Fallen 2 trailer was all cinematics and didn’t feature any gameplay footage. A new trailer was shown at The Game Awards 2025, revealing more details.

When could Lords of the Fallen 2 be released?

The Lords of the Fallen 2 release date hasn’t yet been confirmed, but the trailer ended with the announcement that the game is coming in 2026. That’s a pretty big window of time, but it’s also easy to guess when it’s not going to be released.

See, May 26, 2026, is when Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching, and every studio is going to be avoiding that time period like the plague.

It would make more sense to release Lords of the Fallen 2 before Grand Theft Auto 6, as it’s way more likely to get delayed than pushed forward. That may not be possible, so it’s likely to come out later in the year.

The safest bet is a later 2026 launch window. There’s also a chance that the game could get delayed, especially as pre-orders aren’t live yet, potentially pushing it into 2027.

Expected Lords of the Fallen 2 price & pre-orders

When it comes to the Lords of the Fallen 2 platforms, the game has pages on the digital storefronts where it’s set to appear, but none of these have prices as of yet. There’s also no word regarding alternate editions of the game, but considering that the first game had a Deluxe Edition with bonus DLC, it’s safe to assume the sequel will as well.

In terms of the Lords of the Fallen 2 price, it is in an awkward spot. Game prices have steadily been rising, but it doesn’t have the name or brand value to be worth as much as a triple-A game. Chances are, it will be in the $50-60 range, with a more expensive edition that has cosmetic DLC as an option.

The first Lords of the Fallen 2 trailer confirmed that the game is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch. The game is also coming to PC, but it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive on the platform, though that likely won’t be a permanent move.

Surprisingly, it’s not coming to Steam at release, and it will definitely affect the game’s PC following.

It’s also not confirmed whether Lords of the Fallen 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The game’s predecessor wasn’t released on the original Switch, so the chances of the sequel coming are low, but not outside the realm of possibility.

If the original Lords of the Fallen is ported to the Switch 2 at some point, then the sequel will probably follow.

The debut Lords of the Fallen 2 trailer was just CG, depicting a much darker world than before. Set a hundred years after the first game, the Umbral Calamity has continued to spread across the world, with the gods forsaking mortals.

The only one who can survive in the darkness is the protagonist, using the power of the Umbral Lamp. In this game, the foes are a mixture of angels and demons.

A trailer was shown off at The Game Awards 2025, giving players a more detailed glimpse at what they can expect from the upcoming game, accompanied by an incredible song by Ghost.

The combat looks fast-paced, bloody, and frantic, which is exactly what Soulslike lovers will be hoping for with the Lords of the Fallen 2 release.

While there hasn’t been much said about new features in Lords of the Fallen 2, the developers told Epic Games that they’re improving upon aspects of the original, such as the map design, and bringing back beloved aspects, like the co-op multiplayer. Any big changes to the combat system will likely be revealed closer to release.

Ask The Escapist

Do I have to play the original to enjoy Lords of the Fallen 2?

Soulslike games generally aren’t known for their incredible narratives, as it’s all about fighting monsters and collecting gear. While knowledge of the first game will be helpful, it won’t be required to enjoy the new entry. Lords of the Fallen 2 is setting up a new status quo for its world, especially being set a century later, so the connection to the first story may just be a handful of references.

What kind of gameplay systems from Lords of the Fallen will return?

The first game used character classes, with options that will be familiar to fantasy RPG fans, like spellcasters and armored knights. Lords of the Fallen 2 should feature the same character classes, with new options and tweaks thrown in.

Will Lords of the Fallen 2 feature crossplay?

The Lords of the Fallen 2.0 update ensured that the multiplayer had crossplay, so the sequel should do the same. Considering the popularity of the co-op mode, this will likely be in the game at launch.

Will Lords of the Fallen 2 launch on Xbox Game Pass or PS+?

Lords of the Fallen did eventually come to Game Pass, but didn’t launch on the service. The sequel may come to subscription services, but not for a while. However, there’s still time for either Microsoft or Sony to promote it as a day-one launch for their service in the future.
