Masters Of The Universe Movie Gets Kick-Ass Writer

Kick-Ass 2 writer/director becomes latest scribe to try his hand at Sony Pictures’ live-action He-Man reboot.

Jeff Wadlow, most recently the writer and director of Kick-Ass 2, has become the latest Hollywood player hired to take a shot at the screenplay for Sony Pictures’ long-gestating live-action revival of Masters of The Universe. The project is currently without a director (following the departure of G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu,) though Wadlow is expected to also join the list of prospective candidates.

The big-budget scifi/fantasy project is based on the popular 1980s action-figure line and animated series of the same name, in which Prince Adam of Eternia used a magic sword to become the musclebound hero He-Man and protect Castle Grayskull from the villainous ambitions of Skeletor. A previous film, with Dolph Lungdren as He-Man, was released in 1987.

Wadlow will rewrite an existing script by The Lone Ranger’s Terry Rossio. A previous attempt at the project, a gritty reworking titled Grayskull with a screenplay from The Legend of Chun-Li’s Justin Marks, stalled at Warner Bros in 2009.
