Multiplayer Mode Smashes onto Wii Version of Force Unleashed 2

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

The fight against the dark side takes many forms, like a side-on Smash Bros. style battler for example.

There’s good news and bad news about the upcoming Force Unleashed sequel. The good news is that it’s getting a multiplayer mode, but the bad news is that it’s only going to be available on the Wii.

At first glance, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2’s multiplayer looks a great deal like the Smash Bros. games. But according to James Clarendon of Red Fly Studios – the developer that is making the Wii version of the game – it was actually an arcade game called The Outfoxies that the studio had drawn on, which pitted players against one another in stages that changed as they played. He also said that games like SNK vs. Capcom 2 had inspired certain gameplay elements, like the ability to dash.

The mode has eight characters to chose from, with movie staples like Darth Vader and Boba Fett rubbing elbows with much newer characters like Maris Brood and General Rohm Kota – both of whom return from the first Force Unleashed. It’s kind of a shame that this is only going to be on the Wii. It’s not quite in keeping with the grim tale of betrayal and vengeance that Force Unleashed 2 is trying to tell, but it looks like it could be fun.
