New Super Smash Bros. 4 Character Will be Revealed on Monday

Nintendo will reveal the new character in a live-stream event on Monday, July 14.

Nintendo’s steady trickle of Super Smash Bros. 4 information has until now been pretty inconsistent. Barring special events such as E3, it would reveal new characters and returning veterans on the official Super Smash Bros. website at seemingly random intervals. But now, game director Masahiro Sakurai is hyping a new character in a way he hasn’t done before, announcing that it will be revealed next Monday via a live-stream event.

“Oh, by the way! I’d like to reveal a new challenger. Instead of doing the unveiling on something like a Nintendo Direct, we’re going to live-stream the reveal on the official website on Monday, July 14, at 7:00 AM US Pacific Time (4:00 PM European Central Time),” Sakurai posted on his Miiverse account.

He also noted that “we’re nearing the bottom of the stash of new challenger videos that we’ve made…” which makes sense considering the 3DS release of the game is right around the corner (it will be released in Japan in September).

So, what does this mean? Could it just be that now that we’re in the “final few” character reveals, Nintendo are just putting the hype-train into a higher gear? Or is there something particularly special about this new character reveal? Keep in mind Sakurai specifically said “new challenger”, so we’re not looking at a returning fighter that has yet-to-be-announced such as Wario or Ness.

My bets go with Bayonetta – her new game is exclusive to a Nintendo platform and is releasing pretty soon. It makes sense, but then again, Wii Fit Trainer’s inclusion proved that Sakurai is not really one for making sense…
