EA and DICE have announced that Battlefield 2042 is getting a surprise update 9.2.0 launch, which is now live. Players can jump into Battlefield 2042 right now and experience a free Battle Pass, the new map Iwo Jima, alongside some new weapons and vehicles, and a few other changes.
The surprise update comes hours after DICE took down the Battlefield 6 beta. With hype back on Battlefield, what better time to jump back into Battlefield 2042 and continue your rewards grind for the upcoming title launch? The beta featured just two weekends’ worth of rewards to unlock. And now, if you want even more day-one content, you can jump into Battlefield 2042 and earn new rewards. The quick blog post doesn’t mention what they are, but you can get them inside the free Battle Pass at the following levels:
- Tier 8
- Tier 19
- Tier 30
- Tier 40
- Tier 49
- Tier 60
In addition, the Battle Pass also features rewards for 2042 that are influenced by other iterations of the game, including Battlefield 1, V, Bad Company 2, as well as 3 and 4.
Players have from August 18th to October 7th to complete the 60 free tiers of the new Battle Pass. It’s also loaded with multiple rewards per level – how’s that for some dopamine release?
While progressing, expect to play through the new map, Iwo Jima, one of the iconic Pacific battles of World War II. It was also featured in Battlefield V and Battlefield 1942. The map makes its return with the island fortress under assault from the sea.
If you’re more into infantry and vehicles, there’s plenty more added to the game. Modern aircraft like the A-10 Warthog are now in the game, alongside the SU-25TM Frogfoot. Players can access these aircraft in the All-Out Warfare modes. The vehicles are designed to be tank busters, so they’re something to counteract heavy armor pushes around capture points.
As for infantry players, there’s the new XM8 assault rifle alongside the Lynx sniper rifle. The Lynx is unlocked immediately for players who played through the open beta. If you didn’t play the Battlefield 6 open beta, then you can unlock it in-game later down the line. It’s unclear how long it will be before that happens or what it entails as of right now. If you do have access to it, you’ll find it’s a solid anti-materiel rifle with a decent fire rate, making it a strong sniper that can punch through vehicles with respectable firepower.
Aside from all the new features, there are plenty of balance changes. You can read them all in the official blog post here.
