Battlefield 6 - a view of Ney York

Battlefield 6 trailer shows its intent early by taking us on a ride through big screen war classics

Battlefield is back (soon), and it needs to be good. Call of Duty, in its current form, has outstayed its welcome, at least for me.

I did mention last week how Battlefield had created one of my formative gaming memories and that I was keen to see what the new Battlefield Studios conglomerate of devs could do with B6, and while that has certainly not been made much clearer with the new trailer, it was good, wasn’t it?

The start of the trailer reminded me of the likes of Generation Kill and Black Hawk Down all rolled into one, as that weirdly cinematic version of Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit roared over the top of it.

Did it go on too long? Probably. It got more ridiculous as time went by, with everybody one-shotting any chopper in the vicinity. Still, there was more than enough there to suggest Battlefield 6 is at least going to bring the attitude along with its item shop.

Although it’s billed as the multiplayer gameplay trailer, let’s not kid ourselves, what we got was a beautifully choreographed few minutes of high-intensity. It looked great, but if I ever play a round that intense, I will probably have a stroke.

We got to see New York’s cabs and landmarks getting shot up and even a glimpse of personal drone warfare, which, as we know, is big business at the moment – you can even buy this stuff on a battle-themed online store in Ukraine.

So it looks modern, more importantly, it looks great, and, even better, we get to play in an open beta very, very soon.

When is the Battlefield 6 Open Beta?

We have two weekends of B6 action incoming – August 9-10 and 14-17, although you can pre-load the beta files from August 4th, and there is a chance to get in as early as August 7th if you get in on early access.

Yes, we are now in a world where even beta tests have early access folks.

How to get in on the Battlefield 6 open beta early access

To be in with the early crew, you needed to have signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31st. If you did, then you won’t need a code; all you need to do is log in with your EA Account.

Failing that, you will need to wait until the beta proper on August 9th, where there definitely won’t be any problem with the lobby and the queue to get in. No way.
