Battlefield 6’s Beta Breakthrough Mode on Liberation Peak is an unbalanced meat grinder

With the Battlefield 6 Beta in full swing, with an incredibly high play rate on Steam’s concurrent playlist and tens of thousands in a login queue, the hype for Battlefield 6 is real. With that many players in the game, DICE is getting a lot of feedback through its analytical tools, checking through servers. However, the devs don’t need to turn to their tools to see the outcry going on right now for Battlefield 6’s Breakthrough mode, especially on Liberation Peak. It turns out the only open map on the beta right now is a blood-soaked meat grinder.

For those unaware, Breakthrough is a mode about players experiencing the breakthrough moment in combat. Attacks are supposed to work as a team to take over lanes, cover enemies’ hotpots, and push through enemy lines. They then capture objectives, to then progress through the map in stages, culminating in epic ‘breakthrough’ moments. 

However, on Liberation Peak, the attackers have to run up a hill, straight into an open valley, with minimal cover. Meanwhile, defenders have control over a slope to the south. They also get easy access to a small settlement along the road that gives them more cover and angles to overwatch the limited cover points for the attacking team. It’s turning into an unfair meat grinder for attackers. Some players report they’ve seen attackers win once in 30 games on the map. Meanwhile, other players on the beta forums are saying they automatically leave this map and requeue.

Though the Attackers do get a Main Battle Tank to assault with, with a distant vehicle station and engineers needing to grind some XP before they get the repair tool, early assaults are proving difficult. It requires exceptional team coordination to get through the first checkpoint for attacks on Liberation Peak.

How to attack Liberation Peak in BF6

Though there is hope, as some people have some tips for winning, the first point is largely a problem due to sniper coverage. The snipers should duel other snipers and pick off Support LMG players suppressing areas. Meanwhile, attacking Assault players create room by flanking through the north fields. With some smoke cover, it’s very easy to push around the flanks and use the ledges as cover. If they get support from Recon, deploying beacons is very easy to take control of angles from the nearby rocks. Covering Assault players as they assault that section of the site creates a lot of space to get more cover and have a much more successful time.

It’s something that makes the map more playable. Still, the map needs some work to make it faster and more interesting. If you’re on defence, it’s a good map to at least level up your beta weapon masteries for the time being. For now, it feels like there needs to be some tunnel, maybe a free extra boulder to give players options to push.

For now, Liberation Peak seems to be the map with those pain points. With the full game launching in two months, there’s plenty of time to make modifications to get the map on par with Cairo.
