It’s not news that the gaming community is anxiously awaiting the eventual arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6. Gamers are clinging to any little bit of information they hear about the game ahead of its launch, with Rockstar Games giving us nothing aside from a trailer so far. Now, an insider has some worrisome leaks regarding the release date.
In a recent podcast episode of “Button Mash,” Ben, Matt James, and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier discussed their most anticipated game of 2026, GTA 6, and why it may not even come out this year at all.
When is Grand Theft Auto 6 coming out?
The release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 has been a highly anticipated topic in the gaming community for years. At first, it seemed as though we may never even get a new GTA with how long it took to even hear of its existence after Grand Theft Auto 5. Then, developers basically went silent after a trailer that didn’t tell us much about the game at all (we learned more from the massive game leak later on).
Then, Grand Theft Auto 6 had multiple delays, eventually settling with a release date of November 2026. However, Schreier is not feeling confident in this timeline and appears to expect more delays.
Industry insider has concerns with Grand Theft Auto 6 release date
During the podcast discussion on Grand Theft Auto 6, Schreier said that the game is not complete as of present. At this time, developers are reportedly finalizing missions and deciding what will be in the final version of the game. The next stage is bug fixes.
For this reason, it’s difficult to say if the game will release in November 2026 after all. Schreier noted that nobody at Rockstar appeared “100% certain they’ll make it” as well. Apparently, Rockstar needs the game to be perfect and would rather delay the game’s release than launch it before its exactly how they want it to be.
Since Take-Two’s fiscal year ends in late March of 2027, the GTA 6 team does have some leeway when it comes to delaying the game. They can release it within the same fiscal year even if it was delayed until early 2027. So this could be a possibility, unfortunately.
Guess it’s time for gamers to go back to studying screenshots of developers’ countertops and studying the phases of the moon…
In all seriousness, it wouldn’t be shocking if the game was delayed again, seeing as we still haven’t been given much of anything from Rockstar. Still, Rockstar does have to pick a timeframe soon since Sony is allegedly planning its entire lineup around GTA 6’s launch.
