Invincible VS reveals Cecil as next playable fighter

Invincible VS just revealed its eighth fighter, Cecil.

Based on the violent animated TV show, Invincible VS is a 3×3 tag-team fighting game with a hard-hitting and visual style similar to Dragon Ball FighterZ but with more violence. While the show is about the gritty and real side of being a superhero, but Cecil Stedman, the Director of the Global Defense Agency, has no superpowers.

While fans were initially wondering what Cecil could even bring to the game, his trailer cleared that up real fast.

Cecil abilities and playstyle revealed

In the trailer, you can hear Cecil bitching about having to take care of a bunch of superheroes, and his interactions with opponents are equally as cut-throat and entertaining. He’s the typical “billionaire with tons of stuff at his disposal” archetype, but his sarcasm, highlighted by voice lines from his OG voice actor, really drives the stereotypes home. One fan joked that it uses billions of taxpayer dollars every time he teleports.

So how does a billionaire with no superpowers hold his own in Invincible VS? He is equipped with plasma pistols, projectile launchers, grenades, and other specialized weapons. This allows him to easily control the entire stage as a bit of a zoner, forcing enemies to approach him how he lets them. He also has The Hammer, an orbital laser, so he’s ready to go toe-to-toe with the planet’s most powerful superheroes. And villains.

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman wanted Cecile to be in the game. IGN claims he was “insistent” upon it. Added Narrative Director Mike Rogers: “[Cecile] knows how to get his hands dirty, and he’s got all the tech and all the money of the U.S. government behind him that can allow him to do that. There are just a lot of cool things that we’ve got in there that allow Cecil to be a really different character. We wanted him in there.”

An earlier interview with Art Director Dan Eder revealed that the game is set to launch with between 15 and 20 heroes. It will also have a Story Mode, which is set in the Invincible universe but is a standalone narrative. It’s written by the same woman behind the show, however, so fans should be pretty pleased with it.

So far, the Story Mdoe will feature Mark Grayson (Invincible), Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, Battle Beast, Omni-Man, and Cecil.
