“New” Commodore teases possibility of future Amiga to follow on from C64 launch

We have covered Christian Simpson’s (aka YouTube’s Peri Fractic) reinvention of the Commodore brand since he first announced the move to try to relaunch the company, staff it with people with solid Commodore backgrounds, and even seen the company announce the first hardware – a reinvention of the Commodore 64.

We have also seen the problems just being associated with the mess that was Commodore, which has already brought rivals questioning Simpson’s right to do any of this.

However, that ultimately all ends up panning out, there is no doubt that there is a clamor for new Amiga hardware. We have already seen the success of “mini” versions of the beloved Amiga machines do well, so any “new” Amiga that was actually an Amiga and not just a re-badged PC would likely do well.

Simpson recently answered the question for new Commodore backers who were keen to see if the new company might mean a new Amiga on the horizon.

That kind of response is only going to set the tongues wagging, and while new Amiga hardware is a lovely idea, the plot thickens when it comes to Amiga trademarks, which at some point in time belonged to Gateway, the computer manufacturer, but now are probably owned by John Somebody in Austria. Who knows anymore?

It is all very exciting seeing this huge retro revival, but ultimately, you still need to shift units. How much capacity there is for the niche to purchase lots of new machines is yet to be tested, but fingers crossed, there is life in the old dog yet.
