PlayStation cross-buy rumors intensify as report suggests ‘day and date’ PC ports are coming

We’re living in strange times where Microsoft-owned games are launching on PlayStation on day and date, but PlayStation hasn’t returned the favor just yet (Helldivers 2 arrived considerably later for Team Green).

While Sony has taken to releasing its formerly-exclusive titles on PC a little later than their console launches (Helldivers and, well, Concord aside), rumors have been swirling that PlayStation could look to introduce a cross-buy feature across platforms.

Now, Windows Central’s Jez Corden has suggested ‘day and date’ launches across PS5 and PC could also be coming soon.

PS5 games tipped for simultaneous PC launch

Responding to a post on X about how Sony’s strategy still relies on console exclusives (they forgot Helldivers 2, but we’ll grant them Concord), Corden responded, “day and date is coming”.

PlayStation games hitting PC on day one would be a huge shift for PlayStation, particularly if there is some way of leveraging that rumored cross-buy feature.

Back in the PS3 days, cross-buy games meant you could buy a PS3 game and get the PlayStation Vita equivalent, too, but we’d imagine that to do something similar with PC, PlayStation would probably need a PC storefront.

Microsoft, to its credit, does already have Xbox Play Anywhere, which is a similar deal, but third-party support for the program has been limited from some AAA studios.
