Retro Games Ltd teases new machine at Gamescom – ooh could it be….

The Escapist has been awash with news of new versions of old computers of late. Commodore 64s, Spectrums, and the like seem to be flying in far faster than they ever did back in the 80s.

We have also had the news that Commodore has been taken over and is starting up a whole new world of retro goodness – or is it?

So many stories to go off and read if you missed them already, but stick with us for a minute, and we can fill you in on what Retro Games Ltd, who brought us the excellent A500Mini and more recently the C64 Black Edition, has up its sleeve.

What’s new?

“Gamescom is always a highlight for us, but this year is extra special as we can finally give our fans a taste of what’s next,” said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at RGL. “We want people to see it in person, feel that excitement build, and then join us in October when we’ll lift the curtain completely.”

So with that in mind, we have a couple of teaser images that aren’t much of a tease if you know what you are looking at.

Besides the one at the top of the page, which looks like it’s pretty much a nailed-on Amiga A1200 clone, there is this one, which again is a 1200, probably a mouse, and what looks like it could be an upside-down CD32 joypad. Ooh, this is exciting, isn’t it? A1200 emus are capable of playing CD32 games, so we could be getting that too. Or I could be totally wrong.

Alongside this mystery machine, RGL will also offer visitors tantalising sneak peeks at the future of their retro lineup, including upcoming software and new peripherals.

This machine, however, won’t get a full reveal until October. There will be no technical specifications, price, or release date revealed at Gamescom, which is a shame.

The competition for this sort of stuff is really heating up. The A500Mini was a great unit for Amiga fans who may just be keen to add its older brother to their collections.
