Samson has had a fair amount of streaming attention since its recent launch, not all of it good, but a lot of it positive with people sure there could actually be a great game in there, waiting to punch its way out while people hang on for news of another GTA VI delay.
We took a look at the game just before launch, but since it arrived, it’s become apparent that one of its big features is the unwanted one of being, well, a bit bug-ridden – and you know what the internet is like.
Shipping anything that isn’t pitch-perfect, a launch is going to cause pitchfork sharpening, and although Samson sits currently at a Mixed rating on Steam, there are some reviews in amongst that that are stingers.
So much so that Christofer Sundberg, Founder & Creative Director of the devs, Liquid Swords, has posted on Steam, “Early impressions are mixed, and many of you are experiencing game-breaking bugs and performance issues. That’s unacceptable, and we are listening to everyone’s feedback and are hard at work to deliver the game we spent years of our lives developing.”
Great to hear, but you do wonder what game they were playing internally – the glitches and bugs must have been apparent in-house.
Still, all they can do is get things ship-shape and fair play for acknowledging the issue and doubling down on fixing things.
What’s in the first Samson patch?
Sundberg goes on to say there is a big patch chock full of fixes coming on Friday and lists the following as highlights:
- Several performance fixes focusing on PSO related hitches
- Several crash fixes related to audio, animation and GPU
- Several fixes for mission and progression related issues
- Several fixes for gameplay related issues
- Several updates for general polish on various parts of the game
- Added the ability for up to 8 save files
Multiple save files are certainly a thing that will be welcomed, and hopefully a lot of the crash bugs will be common enough that a raft of fixes makes them go away for good.
We are still keeping everything crossed for Samson, as it is still fun, so Godspeed to the devs.
