Breaking news: Sexist man wants you to feel bad that he almost faced consequences for being terrible

Remember when League of Legends pro player Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau went on Twitch and basically said that women can’t play video games on a stage because they get their periods? Yeah, you probably forgot since nothing really happened after.

In early September, Bwipo claimed that women are too irrational to play League of Legends even though he’d spent the entirety of August having a mental breakdown over another team getting Korean BBQ. The esports community reacted with disgust at his pathetic lack of knowledge about women’s anatomy as a grown man.

FlyQuest, an organization known for being very into activism and fundraising, banned Bwipo for basically two matches. Essentially, nothing happened. He was fine. Then, the Worlds music video was delayed because they wanted to cut out anything with Bwipo. Again, he was fine. Sure, it’s disappointing. But it’s not life-changing.

Bwipo acts emotional over nothing

Despite claiming women are too unstable to play a MOBA, Bwipo basically admitted to crying, shaking, and shitting himself over getting a slap on the wrist.

He told Sheep Esports: “At one point, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. I feared for my career and didn’t know if I’d even be able to play at Worlds.”

Oh no, he may have actually had consequences!

Bwipo then claimed he didn’t even “stand by” what he said. Which is an interesting take on a long-winded rant that was quite extensive and intentional. I am not really all too sure how you emphatically discuss your “experiences” with women on periods and claim there’s no “support” for monthly cycles, but you didn’t actually believe it?

“Sometimes you’re running thoughts through your head, trying to reach a conclusion, and you say something before realizing it’s wrong. Obviously, that was a huge blunder on my part, and I feel really bad about it because I don’t believe it,” he explained.

“That’s been the hardest part — not being able to defend myself and say, I don’t believe this. I know I said it, and even if there were no consequences, I would still agree it was a terrible take.”

Ug, so hard. At least he will “take responsibility” for what he said. Esports is now saved. The end.

Women have been having a pretty tough year in esports. First, ESL shut down its women’s Counter-Strike 2 circuit because Saudi Arabia bought them out, then Riot released game-changing updates right before the all-female VALORANT Game Changers championship. And when asked why, we basically got a “dunno, I didn’t say to do it” from the developers who released the updates.

Yet people like Bwipo get to compete at Worlds even though they’re unstable and emotional. There’s just a certain time of your career where you shouldn’t be fucking playing competitive games as a guy.
