Vernearth

Slipknot founder member is releasing a game made in Minecraft – The world really is getting stranger isn’t it?

In this day and age, what you might think used to be a prank is very definitely always true. If you had come up to me only ten years ago and told me that the dude from alternative metal band Slipknot was spending his evening hunched over his PC coding a game realm in Minecraft, I would have thought it was some kind of Spitting Image parody. But no, founding member of Slipknot, filmmaker, and now game developer M Shawn Crahan – better known to fans as Clown, has been leaving the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll to one side to get busy creating a voxel-based world, inspired, naturally enough, by Slipknot, called Vernearth.

Heading to the Vernearth website at the moment reveals a voxel title screen and the opportunity to pop in your email to sign up for updates. It’s also got a pretty cool industrial soundtrack, so if you are at work, you might want to tweak the volume down before clicking on this link.

Beyond that, the only other information is “Congratulations. You made it. There’s no turning back now. Welcome to VERNEARTH. It’s just better here.”

What we do know, however, is that the PR around the Minecraft Realm says this: “For Clown, Vernearth isn’t just a game world, it’s an extension of his creativity outside Slipknot, suitable for players of all ages. This isn’t just Minecraft. It’s Vernearth. Vernearth is a surrealist experience. Think of it as a place where time and reality don’t play by the rules. Over 100 million blocks make up this ever-changing landscape, home to mysterious beings called Mind Stewards and endless opportunities for creation, combat, and exploration. Whether you want to build, battle, or just lose yourself in the atmosphere, Vernearth is designed to pull you in and never let go.”

“Vernearth is a place that has been set up to explore your own existence,” said Crahan somewhat philosophically about his creation that has been built in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. While we don’t have any more information on when Vernearth will be publicly available at this point, we think it will be pretty close and we are looking forward to jumping in and playing with Clown himself.
