Something for the weekend? Strategy spectacular TactiCon 2025 has begun on Steam

As usual, you can’t move for Fests and Cons and sales and deals on Steam. Factory-building game fans are already in their element with the ongoing Steam Automation Fest that is currently running, but what if you want out-and-out strategy to give you something new to play over the weekend?

Well, publisher Hooded Horse (my faves!) has a Steam event running too right now with Firesquid as the “premier” Steam-based digital event, Tacticon, returns for its fourth year, showcasing some of the best strategy games out there until July 21st.

Tacticon 25 is more than just another discount event however, it is more akin to an actual online conference. This year’s was kicked off by Hooded Horse’s own Renee April and features trailers reveals and announcements. In your face Keighley.

“The fourth edition of TactiCon gathers over 106 recent and unique strategy games by long-established studios and solo indie game developers. This highly curated selection tries to embody the broad plurality of the genre, from modern RTS to crafty Tactical Roguelike, revisited 4X and Strategic Management games.”

So says the blurb on the official TactiCon website, and I really like this approach to showcasing games, rather than just arbitrarily knocking off 10% off the RRP of a load of games you have never heard of.

Anybody who knows these two publishers should not be surprised. There is an aura of “they really care” around the games they put out there.

TactiCon says it “highlights the brilliant and creative minds who develop strategy games and gathers the players who love them,” and that places it firmly in the cool category for us.
