Highguard just died and we are already being bombarded with another hero shooter being compared to Concord

Gamers have decided they are the judge, jury, and executioner when it comes to new shooters attempting to enter the space. If they don’t like what they see, even if it’s just a trailer, you will be given the same treatment and fate as Concord: death upon release.

Highguard was the latest game to shut down shortly after arrival. The “raid shooter” was made by former Apex Legends devs, who were very adamant about communicating with players, but the strange release plan left a bad taste in gamers’ mouths ahead of launch, and nothing was probably good enough to save it.

Highguard tried. It gave players what they demanded, released tons of new content, and promised updates throughout 2026. But gamers were already done with it. To me, the game was so-so. It was fun but nothing exhilarating. I think it deserved a chance. But the gaming community had already started comparing it to Concord and watching its decline on Steam.

Gamers have already picked out their next victim: Time Takers.

Time Takers is the next Concord, and it’s already been decided

At this point, it’s very clear that male players hate fat chicks in their games. However, even games with generic, hot female characters aren’t safe from being shunned ahead of launch. Time Takers has very safe designs, with pretty faces right out of an Instagram filter and slim, curvy bodies. One person even took to X to say the character designs were “beautiful.”

But he was surprisingly bashed.

The neon-splashed art direction had plenty of gamers noting that it looked sort of like AI slop. Others felt it was just generic, sci-fi, neon… All the makings of other existing shooters, like Apex Legends and The Finals.

It wasn’t long before players began mentioning Concord. Here are just a few:

  • Ok, what’s going on? Is it someone’s particular fetish to sponsor dead-on-arrival Concord-likes? I’m so confused
  • Concord was two weeks. Highguard was 45 days. What’s the prediction for this one?
  • Highguard’s corpse isn’t even cold yet and they’re already lining up another hero shooter for the wall

Time Takers recently entered its Closed Beta, which will last until March 21st across North and South America. From NCSOFT and Mistil Games, Time Takers is a “fast-paced, team-based survival shooter where time is the ultimate resource.” There are various characters and weapons to choose from, and teams make “high-risk” decisions in “critical situations,” such as spending time upgrading abilities or finding the perfect spot to camp.

It sounds… fine. However, with only a few thousand players in the Closed Beta and gamers already hating on the game post-launch, I don’t think Time Takers has a chance. Whether it deserves a chance or not, I think gamers are on a bit of a power streak right now. They saw what they could do to Highguard with bad Steam reviews and comparisons to Concord all over X. Time Takers is next.

I personally think the gameplay looks boring, so do with the game what you want. I don’t care.
