The newly-revealed intro movie to Atlus' erotic/horror title Catherine doesn't tell us anything, but it's still kind of cool anyway.
Here's the good news: Atlus has just revealed the opening credits for the bizarre-looking (and yet strangely appealing) Catherine on the game's official site. Here's the bad news: The intro really doesn't show us anything beyond a quick tour of (what is presumably) protagonist Vincent's bachelor pad.
It's heavy on style, but very light on substance - compare it to the excellent Persona 4 intro, for example. If anything, it does a very good job at setting up the melancholy mood for Vincent's life and situation, so I can't really complain there. Beyond that, though, there's nothing.
The intro does reveal the actors who will be lending their voices to the game's cast, though - in Japanese, of course. There are some big names in the credits that many anime fans will likely recognize.
Koichi Yamadera, who voices main character Vincent, may be best known in the West for his roles as Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop and Ryoji Kaji in Neon Genesis Evangelion. He is playing opposite Kotono Mitsuishi as Catherine (or is she Katherine?), who won fame for her turns as the main character in Sailor Moon and Major Misato Katsuragi in Evangelion. Evangelion fans, it's okay to be amused by this.
Other major names in anime include Gundam's go-to masked man Takehito Koyasu (to be fair, that guy is in everything) and uber-ham Norio "Emperor Wakamoto" Wakamoto, who has voiced videogame characters like M. Bison in Street Fighter and Dracula in Castlevania. No word as to who they're playing, but the presence of Norio Wakamoto instantly makes anything a good ten times as cool as it would have been otherwise.
Catherine is currently slated for a Japanese release this winter, with no word whether it'll make it to the West or not. I certainly hope so - I can't remember the last time I've felt so intrigued for a game despite knowing so little about it.
