Gears of War 3: Forces of Nature Launches, Gets Pretty in the Rain

Sawing through aliens on a rainy day.

It's long been the case that bouts of inclement weather which leave electricity supplies intact can be a gamer's best friend. "Oh man! Half the university's buildings are flooded and class is cancelled? Jeez, what a shame..."

Natural forces aren't always our allies in the world of gaming, however. Case in point: Gears of War 3's latest DLC pack, Forces of Nature, which pits you against nasty aliens on a planet whose weather systems seem intent on disrupting your quest for bloody justice. Various alliances between the weather and the aliens await, all set to a background of delightfully designed dystopian vistas.

The pack comprises five maps which each feature a different kind of upsetting weather. "Aftermath" is all about flooding, "Artillery" is infested with tornadoes; "Cover" is a fog-infested visibility nightmare, "Jacinto" is torrential rain-central, and "Raven Down" brings up the rear with the obligatory snowstorm. According to developer Epic Games, the pack also features "250 Achievement Points and four new multiplayer characters, including the Savage Hunter, as well as new variants of Commando Dom, Mechanic Baird, and the Savage Grenadier Elite."

Included below is a selection of screenshots from the pack, with its locations captured in a pre-disembowling-of-aliens tranquillity which imbues them with a certain sense of beauty.

Forces of Nature is out now for Gears of War 3 on Xbox 360.
