It's official: The upcoming Deus Ex game will be called Human Revolution and to mark the christening, Square Enix has released a sexy new trailer offering the first look inside the prequel to one of the most influential videogames of all time.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is set roughly three decades prior to the original conspiracy-laden classic. Players will take on the role of Adam Jensen, a "security response specialist" at a bleeding-edge biotechnology firm who finds himself caught up in a multi-layered conspiracy that will have him fighting for his very life. While Adam begins the game as "all organic," he will be forced to undergo augmentation as the game progresses in order to survive and achieve his goals.
The new trailer doesn't show any actual gameplay footage but it has inspired some heated discussion among fans of the series, ranging from debate about the meaning of the opening dream sequence to complaints that Jensen's augmentations don't look primitive enough to fit in with the Deus Ex timeline. As a more sophisticated gamer than most, I don't indulge in that sort of wild speculation, but I did notice that the hidden soldiers near the end of the video were wearing uniforms that looked very much like those of MJ12...
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is currently in development for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No release date has been set, but more information has been promised for E3 2010, which runs from June 15-17.
