Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Show Lands New Writer, Gets Back on Track

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Disney Plus new writer Joby Harold John Wick Chapter 3 Ewan McGregor

The Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ TV show seems to be getting back into the swing of things after it got delayed due to some hesitations with the series’s writing last year. Variety is reporting Joby Harold has taken up writing duties on the series from Hossein Amini, who exited the series in January.

Harold has never written for television before, but he did write the underrated King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and has been tapped recently to co-write the next installment of the Transformers films. He is also a successful producer, having worked on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and the TV series Underground and Spinning Out. While none of those qualifications really give an idea of his ability to develop a quality Obi-Wan Kenobi show, it appears Disney has faith in his abilities.

It’s also unclear how much of a rewrite this will be. Amini seemed to be fairly far along with the writing duties as the show was already gearing up for production this year. (It has since been pushed to January of 2021.) McGregor said that the writing and story were already strong but just needed a little more time to gestate, so Harold may just be coming in to tighten up the screenplays without revamping the entire story. McGregor’s tone would suggest this is the case, at least.

Deborah Chow, who directed an episode of The Mandalorian, is still set to direct the series despite the delay.
