Microsoft and Namco Bandai have teamed up to offer Xbox Live gamers worldwide a chance to participate in the Pac-Man World Championship, as well as a Pac-Man FANatic contest.
A new Pac-Man World Championship contest will take place on Xbox Live, with competitors vying for an opportunity to travel to New York and do battle for the Pac-Man crown.
The Pac-Man leaderboard scores on Xbox Live will be reset in order to provide a fair starting point for the contest, which will run from April 25 to May 9.
At the close of the contest, Microsoft will determine the top nine players from across the globe based on Xbox Live rankings. A 10th “wild-card” player will be selected from the entrants of a Pac-Man FANatic contest, in which anyone can submit a video that “best illustrates their love for Pac-Man.”
All ten contestants will be flown to New York City to compete in a final, winner-take-all Pac-Man throw-down to determine the champion. The victor will be crowned World Champion by Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani and will receive other prizes including 26 years of free meals from Quiznos, 100,000 Microsoft Points, and a custom-designed Xbox 360 featuring a unique Pac-Man motif.
Details on how to enter both the Pac-Man World Championship Tournament and the Pac-Man FANatic contest are available on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Tournament site.
