Parasite Eve Dual Pack Could Horrify PSN

A duo of PS1 survival horror RPGs could be hitting the PlayStation Network as a prelude to The 3rd Birthday.

In the days of the original PlayStation, Square (which hadn’t yet merged with Enix) could do no wrong. One of the company’s hits was Parasite Eve, a survival horror RPG that was a melding of Final Fantasy with Resident Evil. With Parasite Eve spin-off The 3rd Birthday coming to the PSP in Japan this year, and other regions later, Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura might try to remind people about the original games through a PlayStation Network release.

Nomura posted on the 3rd Birthday Twitter account: “Before The 3rd Birthday I’d like to do something for the numerous requests for the archives [version] of 1st and 2nd.” Fans have apparently been clamoring for the releases of Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve II on the PSN, and it looks like Nomura is going to comply with their demands by the end of 2010.

Nomura was a character artist on both Parasite Eve games and has since worked on games ranging from Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy XIII. Sadly, it’d be my best guess that only Japan will receive the PSN releases of Parasite Eve, as Square Enix has only been gracing other regions with its PS1 Final Fantasy titles. Aside from Vagrant Story coming to the European PSN, only Japan has gotten non-Final Fantasy PS1 games such as Legend of Mana and Brave Fencer Musashi. 3rd Birthday is coming to North American though, so perhaps we’ll get lucky this time around.
