PlayStation 5 Generation Will Have More Exclusives ‘Than Ever Before,’ Says Jim Ryan

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan says that PlayStation 5 will have more exclusives than any previous console generation of PlayStation. Speaking with Japanese publication Nikkei (via VGC translation), Ryan explained that Sony has already put in the effort to ensure more first-party releases going forward.

“We have been quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation, and we will make sure that the PS5 generation will have more dedicated software than ever before,” Ryan said.

He additionally explained that adding more studios to its PlayStation family is not out of the question: “We have repeatedly engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including Insomniac Games in the US. We will not rule out that option in the future.”

Throughout the next year alone, PlayStation 5 fans are expecting to get their hands on exclusives like Housemarque’s Returnal, Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West. Sony Santa Monica Studio’s God of War sequel, which has not received a major update following its reveal last year, is still on the way too, and these are only some of the major releases that we know about.

Meanwhile, Sony has already announced some partnerships with other developers. We’re still waiting to hear more from Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios and Blue Box Game Studios’ first-person survival-horror game, Abandoned.
