The saga of Realtime Worlds continues as former staff go without their final paycheck for seven weeks.
A Scottish newspaper has reported that more than half of Realtime Worlds’ former staff are preparing to pursue an employment tribunal in order to secure their final month’s salary in the wake of the developer’s collapse.
Former MyWorld lead artist Tahir Rashid said that around 70% of Realtime Worlds’ staff hadn’t been paid, including himself, after the administrators Begbies Traynor lost the paperwork for his application for redundancy pay. Rashid added that RTW should have given everyone a ninety day consultation period before making anyone redundant, saying that the sixty MyWorld staff that were let go were only given thirty days – which is actually in line with the UK government’s guidelines for that number of redundancies – and the APB staff got about an hour.
Begbies Traynor said that the pay situation isn’t its fault, and that it sent the application forms for redundancy pay to the UK government’s Redundancy Payment Office almost immediately after it was appointed administrator. There is doubt amongst staff that it was actually that efficient however, as it has been seven weeks since RTW went into administration and as yet, the staff remains unpaid. It’s thought that the staff retained to keep APB running while a buyer was sought have been paid, but aren’t eligible for redundancy pay. Hopefully, the affected staff will be able to get the money owed to them quickly and with little additional fuss.
