Roger Daltrey Hints at The Who: Rock Band

Roger Daltrey has revealed in an interview that a Rock Band project featuring The Who will apparently be coming out sometime next year.

Band-specific music games seem to be all the rage these days: Some are good (The Beatles: Rock Band) and some are bad (Guitar Hero: Van Halen) but as the genre continues to grow as an alternative to “conventional listening,” more and more bands are seeing it as a way to reinvigorate their careers. Brian May recently claimed that talks about a Queen-themed version of Rock Band are underway, while U2 bassist Adam Clayton said the success of The Beatles: Rock Band has sparked a renewed interest in videogames in his bandmates.

Now you can add The Who to that list: Speaking to MassLive.com, singer Roger Daltrey said a Rock Band project based on the group is coming next year. “The game, yeah, yeah, they’re going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned,” he said.

It turns out that unlike many of his peers, Daltrey is a big fan of the music game genre. “(The idea) is fabulous,” he continued. “Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful. In my opinion, music is our last true great freedom. They can burn our books, they can burn our paintings, but they can’t stop us singing and making music.”

I’ve never bought a music game in my life and until today I never thought I would, but if this thing awards bonus points for smashing your controllers at the end of the game, man, I am sold.
