Deep Silver, a U.K.-based publisher who recently announced the opening of offices in the U.S., will be publishing GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky in North America.

Founded in 2002, Deep Silver’s previously published titles include Gothic 3, Heart of Empire: Rome, Earth 2160, Mage Knight Apocalypse, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion and many others. The company will be taking over from THQ, who handled the release of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. last year.

“As GSC holds the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. IP we were in position to negotiate the publishing deal for Clear Sky,” said Oleg Yavorsky, senior P.R. manager at GSC Game World. “Although the intention was there, in the long run we couldn’t find agreement with THQ to continue with publishing of Clear Sky.”

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is a prequel to last year’s hit FPS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, set one year prior to the original game. It will feature both levels from the original game remade to reflect the differences in the earlier days of the Exclusion Zone, as well as brand new areas to explore. An updated version of the game engine will include DirectX 10 support for even more advanced visual effects. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is currently set for release on August 29.
