This article is over 17 years old and may contain outdated information

Sony has unveiled an add-on unit for the PlayStation 3 that provides TV recording functionality, at the Leipzig game conference in Germany.

Dubbed PlayTV, the twin TV tuner is slated for an early 2008 launch in select European countries, including France, Italy, Germany, Britain and Spain.

Programs can be recorded and then streamed via wireless internet to the PSP hand-held, or stored physically through a USB cable.

Sony said free channels will also be available, and other countries will also see the service at an unannounced date.

No pricing details were provided.
