What’s better than a day filled with ice cream, fishing, and campfire fun? Spending it with the leader of the Autobots.
Odds are that you haven’t heard of Canadian singer/songwriter James Struthers before now. The man is working on building a name for himself via indie pop songs that tend to cater to fans of other musicians like Jason Mraz and Josh Rodin. However, Struthers is apparently reaching out to nerds across the Web, since he’s just released a new single titled “You, Me and Optimus Prime.”
While the song is certainly charming enough, it’s the music video that really makes it a lot of fun. The guy who accompanies Struthers dressed as Prime is rocking a pretty solid costume, and it’s actually pretty entertaining to see the leader of the Autobots play Scrabble, go for a canoe ride, and beat the stuffing out of that crappy boss all of us worked for when we were teenagers. By the way, make sure you watch the video all the way to the end – the gag here works a lot better than it did in Michael Bay’s first Transformers movie.
The song is currently available for sale on iTunes. Well done, Mr. Struthers: Your song has inspired me to dig out my old Transformer toys and play with them for a while.
